~ 4th of July Felt Wreath Tutorial ~

The 4th of July is right around the corner.  I know I'm pushing it by posting this hoping my readers will have time to create this work of art. The first time it only took me 4 hours to do.  But that was cutting out double felt (a friend was doing one too). And we actually had LOTS of felt left over. So I'd cut that to probably 3.5 hours. The 2nd time I knew what I was doing, so it was only like 2.5 hours.

The good thing about this project is that your measurements don't have to precise. You'll spend HOURS if you're measuring everything. So just eyeball it! :)

Did I come up with this on my own? No!  I did not get it off Pinterest, I actually just googled felt wreaths, changed it to images, and this one came up.  So, big thanks to that gal!  :)  I did a few things different than her, but still the same concept.

If you noticed there are 2 backgrounds to these pictures, I actually did this wreath twice, one for me and one for my mom.  Glad I did them twice because I left out a few pictures the 1st time around. :)

What you'll need:
  • Scissors
  • Thin Craft Wire
  • Push pins (my box was 750, didn't use all of them)
  • Rounded floral wreath (mine was 12")
  • 1/2 to 1 yard of each color (might use more or less, depends how FULL you want it)
  • Ruler (if you want)
  • Pen (to curl your craft wire)
  • Hot glue gun or glue
  • Stars (size and how you get them is personally up to you)
  • Small strip of any color ribbon to hang it with

The squares you will cut out will be 2" X 2".  What I did was cut out strips that were 2 inches.  Then when I started cutting out the squares, I measured the first one and then eyeballed the rest. Remember, nothing has to be precises on this.

We folded the felt, measured and cut little slits up to 12 inches. Less cut time, because then you had 12 strips.

This is way too much, but wanted to be safe than sorry.  I could have probably made 2 wreaths with what I cut.

Mark your wreath where your blue will be.  What I did was start my whites out on those ends of the blue. I did 5 bunches of white and 4 of red.

Next you will fold a square, corner to corner, then corner to corner again. Like a triangle.

The top of the triangle is where your push pin will go. And you'll continue to do your squares like this.

From there you'll add another layer on top of that. Same concept, but this time you'll place the pin in between where the others connected.   Like a flower concept.

Only 2 sides of the 2nd layer.

The full 2nd layer.

Then you'll fluff them out.

I did my white patches first.

Then you'll start with your red inbetween those whites, same concept.

Before filling in to make full.

Now you need to fill in to make them fuller.  I added probably 3 extra squares down each side of the "flower".  How full you want it is personally up to you. It'll get tight but still try to fill in as much as possible.

Next you'll start on your blue.  I did 3 bunches of flowers then filled in the same way.

Looks pretty neat so far, right? But your not done. What about the green that's showing on the inside of your wreath and the outter edges?  Yup, you guessed it, time to fill those in too!  Just keep filling in and tucking under the other squares.

Ok, now that looks better!

Last but not least is the stars!

If you have a cricut you can use that for your stars, you can also use the star punches found at Hobby Lobby. Sadly I sold most of my cricut cartridges and our Hobby Lobby only had the super small star punch. So I got on Microsoft Word, found a star, put them on a document and printed them out.  I then put that paper in a laminated pouch (non heat kind).  WRONG!  Cut the stars out and THEN put them in the laminated pouch!  If you put the full paper in the pouch then cut the stars out, 1 side will be laminated.  I do not know what I was thinking!  I mean, we were watching Magic Mike while doing this, maybe that's the problem!

Now do you have to laminate them? No, you don't. But if your wreath is outside, it'll be just a tad bit more weather resistant.

You'll cut your craft wire out, depending how curly and long you want it. Totally up to you.  You'll then twist it around your pen.

Next you'll flatten out the center of the wire.

Next you'll hot glue your stars onto the flat part of the wire.  Then you'll stick them in the blue part of your wreath. I had a hard time finding the green part of the wreath to stick them in.  I'm not sure how they will hold up just by sticking that small wire into the wreath, I might decide to go back and hot glue them to the wreath and hide the glue under the felt. I personally kinda pushed the stars closer to the wreath.  I didn't like them POPPING out too much, it make it look weird.

Depending where you put the wreath you'll probably have to get some ribbon and make a loop and pin it to the back of the wreath to hang up on the door. You actually can't see the ribbon on the door because of the hook I used. :)  So it doesn't really matter what color you use.

6-27-13 You'll more than likely find pictures of my dogs regularly each week on Instagram! They are my babies!  Here they are laying in the sun.  Rarely do they ever get this close, so when they do it warms my heart! :)

6-28-13 I had a few minutes to spare before work so I left a sweet note for the husband when he woke up! :)

6-29-13 This bad boy was created in 4 hours!  Was very impressed with myself.  I'll be doing a tutorial (probably today) on it so be on the lookout! Back around Christmas I was doing mesh wreaths, now it's felt and burlap!  So I've been on Pinterest HARD CORE!  Also thought about giving 1 away, not this specific one, but one in general!

~ Tawny? Well... let me share with you...... ~

I get soooo many compliments on my name.  But with those compliments comes the mispronunciation. But I mean who doesn't deal with that?  I get Toni, Tammy, Pawny, Tony, etc. What really erks me is when I get a reply from an email and it starts with Tammy.  I mean, can you read the email? It says Tawny.  Oh and by the way, those emails are NOT from my fellow lovely bloggers. :) Then of course, there was my maiden name... which then got changed to something easier (but still spelt wrong), but we won't go there.  This is all about my FIRST name! :)

Most relate to my name because of Tawny Kitaen from the White Snake video.  I kid you not, a professor actually mentioned that one time while we were introducing ourselves. Quite funny actually.

Tawny is actually a color. They make lip sticks, nail polish, etc.  It is an orange-brown or yellowish-brown.

There is also a Tawny Owl AKA Brown Owl commonly found in Eurasia (Europe and Asia). They are quite pretty I might say. :)

Via

Also, there are Tawny Crazy Ants more popularly known as Rasberry Crazy Ants.  They are mainly found in Houston, TX, but I recently found an article that said they were in FL.  Unlike the owl, these things are UGLY!

Via

There is also a Tawny Port.  I did not know this until the other day actually.  I was looking for some Reisling to make some fondue and I just got to looking around and BAM... there it was.
Tawny ports are wines, made from red grapes, that are aged in wooden barrels, exposing them to gradual oxidation and evaporation. As a result, they gradually mellow to a golden-brown colour. The exposure to oxygen imparts "nutty" flavours to the wine, which is blended to match the house style. It is usually used as a dessert wine, which I will have to remember next time! :)

And last but not least... back in the day... when I was a kid and played with puzzles. This was my favorite, only because it was called Tawny Scrawny Lion! I'm sure my mom still has it somewhere! :)

I hope I've educated you in some way today. :)  Or at least gave you something interesting to read. :)

True Blood-aired 6/23/13 - The Sun
This season will be all about Warlow, I have a feeling.  We see him coming through a portal at the beginning of this episode. So, we know he is on Bon Temps.  I think he is Ben, the fairie that Sookie meets. Not sure what Warlow can do, if he can change his apperance or anything.  But either Ben is Warlow trying to get close to Sookie, or her new love interest. We will see! Oh, and thanks to the captions I now have on the TV, it's not fairy, it's fairie.
We meet Jason's fairie Godfather, Neille.  I was skeptical at first, but I quickly changed my mind.  He mentions doing 1 single thing that can save Sookie from Warlow, but after that her light is gone.  I hope that's not the case, I'd hate for her to lose that.
We also see in this episode that the humans are really going against the vampires, from the silver bullet that emits light to the contacts that won't let them be glamoured. I think the S*it will hit the fan!
Bill is also a prophet of Lilith and I think he is "changed" to help the vampires, oddly, I think this will be a good thing.  Bill also see's the future, which will help in this situation.  And when Bill kills Veronica from Human Edibles (kudos HBO for that name), was that not CRAZY! Obviously it was altered, but HBO did a good job at that!
Emma is also taken from Sam, I'm not sure how that will pan out.  I don't think Emma wants to be a werewolf at all.  I do believe the "group" recording the fight will eventually talk Sam into coming out about him being a shifter.
When Bill sees the future at the end with all the vampires in a white room with the ceiling parting... that's the "camp" that the Govenor mentioned, just another thing that the humans are doing to kill the vamps off.
And Eric with the Governors daughter.... she seemed kinda irritated at her father, I think she will go on the vampire side just to make her dad mad. You feeling those vibes too?

Bachelorette - aired 6/24/13
This episode was man drama! Geez!  But, let's first start from the beginning.
Chris got his 1 on 1, he says he doesn't know German, but he sure did read the date card quite well. Funny thing was he thought the meat was from the city cow.. not the meat, literally. Quite funny!  Bryden interrupts their date to tell him the wants to go home. He should have done that last rose ceremony when he wasn't feeling it instead of taking the rose.  Have to give Chris kudos for being nice when Bryden stole her away, but I think he knew what was gonna happen too. :)  I liked Chris even more when he mentioned that they needed to talk about it because communication was the best part of the relationship.  Chris is gaining some brownie points with me.  And what's up with all the artists this season? There is usually 1 big one... we've had like 4 so far this season.

What was up with Michaels hair? Doesn't look real.  Comb your hair before the cameras are on you! :)

Group date was at the highest peak in Germany, sledding down this huge mountain. I have to admit, it looked like sooo much fun.  They also yodeled.  Juan Pablo saying yodeler was quite funny, guess it's too early to find the clip, I tried. :(
The igloo hotel reminded me of Catherine and Sean's date, wasn't it similar?
I love how Des just grabs Brooks like mid sentence and kisses him.... gave me chills.
Brooks later spies on James, I thought to butt in, but then realizes that they have a true connection.  I think this made him sad and realize the reality that she does have connections with others, not sure why it was such a surprise to him.
He looked like he wasn't wearing anything under his jacket in a few shots. This was the best I could get.
James assumes he will get the rose, his head is getting a little too big. But whatcha know, it's Brooks! Woot!

Ah, the lovely 2 on 1. You can just tell the hate between them in the vehicle.  Kudos to Ben for not getting mad in front of Des. There for a moment I thought he was gonna get the rose, but he didn't. Michael did. Personally, both should have went home. Why would you want someone that childish?  Michael was way outta line and thought he was being big and bad. Have you not watched other episodes where you call others out, it usually doesn't end well.
Rewinding here (sorry, was heated about the end of the 2 on 1, had to put my 2 cents in there first), was that hot tug the coolest thing EVER!  They did look a little crazy out there in swimsuits though!
OH, and what happened to Michaels thumb? Did I miss something?
When Ben doesn't get the rose... limo ride reminded me of Wes's limo ride with Jillian when he confirmed what the true intentions where.  Well kinda... Ben basically said... Hi Hollywood. Then said he was gonna party on his last night. What's that say about him???
No rose ceremony.
Brooks kisses are more sentimental. Zak is more physical (duh!).
Des hair and makeup looked great, better than I've seen this season!
I love how she always speaks to Juan Pablo in Spanish, I'm sure it means alot to him.
The guys wanted to call James out but didn't get the chance. I wish one would have spoken up so Mikey didn't go home.  Why they didn't, don't know!?
Looks like another drama filled episode next week.  Ready for the rollercoaster?!?!  Who are your front runners? Remember I know the winner, so I can't say. :) If you wanna know.. check out Reality Steve.

See ya'll next week!  Plans are to recap True Blood, Dexter, and Bachelorette.  I hope I can fit all those in! :)

6-17-13 Having coffee with the Zebras. This coffee was mid day, I needed a pick me upper!  We were on the 2nd floor and there were so many animals to look at. I should have took the little flyer with me so when I do a vacation recap I'd know what I took a picture of! LOL! On my Instagram you'll see the giraffes! :)

6-18-13 Our niece got spoiled at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Magic Kingdom.  These "cast members" were very good and worked well the the kids.  It was an experience to watch!  :)  Here she was picking out her nail polish!

6-21-13 My poor feet were aching so bad!  Walked around in sandals most of the time, only because I hate shoes.  I have to BEG Steven to massage my feet, but here he did it all on his own!

6-21-13 The Sky Coaster! Worlds Tallest at 300ft. This was the 2nd time I done this one, and I hate it EVERY time we go up.  I'm scared to death. But of course, I wanna do it again. And we would have, if it wouldn't have been for the thunder/lightening that was happening!

6-22-13 After the family vacation we took a quick trip to Pensacola and watched a dear friend get married! I love beach weddings, never actually been to 1 until now.  And I have to say, this was the 2nd wedding I've cried at!  When the groom gets choked up, you can't help but shed a tear!

~ Meet Neri (the girl whose Sneakers Sparkle)! ~

While I'm enjoying my relaxation (still), I've asked Neri to take over my blog for the day!  Be sure to stop by her place and say hi! All her links are at the end of her guest post!  Super sweet gal, you'll be glad that you got to know her!
Take it away Neri:

Hey y'all!  I'm Tawny's friend, Neri (as in netty, you know... just roll the "r").  Since Tawny is off gettin' her vacation on this week, she asked if I would share some words on her blog.

I do the blogging over at Sparkling with Sneakers and although Sparkling is rather new, I've been blogging for 5 years.  I came across Tawny's blog a while ago and began chatting with her via email.  As soon as I read that she loves dogs, runs, and is a fellow Bachelor/ette fan... oh my, we became instant friends y'all!!  She makes me literally "lol" all the time.

So a bit about me.  I'm an Air Force wife, a homeschooling mom of 2, and a bit of a health nut.
I wasn't always a "health nut".  I'm a recovering food addict.  After many rough years, I decided to take control of my health and lost over 40 lbs last year.

These days I am working on new goals.  I have a passion for encouraging and motivating others to live a healthy lifestyle one goal at a time.  Over at Sparkling with Sneakers, I blog about food, sharing recipes and resources, my family, and I even host fitness challenges.  I love sharing the highs of my life journey and at times the hard stuff that makes me relatable.

With that said, I have something yummy to share with y'all.

Protein Pudding:
 photo IMG_3729.jpg
what you'll need:
1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese
1 scoop whey or casein protein (I used cookies & cream, but the choices are endless)
2 tbsp unsweetened almond milk (depends on your desired consistency.  Start with 2)
optional toppings:
mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
shredded coconut
berries
step 1:  throw cottage cheese, protein, and almond milk into a blender, or small food processor.
step 2: blend thoroughly until smooth.
step 3: check consistency.  If you feel it's too thick for you, you can add 1-2 more tbsp's of almond milk.
step 4: complete with desired toppings.  I prefer fresh berries.  My husband and kids go crazy for chocolate chips and shredded coconut.  You can even add peanut butter!  Make it your own by adding your favorites!

There you have it!  Hope you enjoy it!!
I'd love for you to visit with me on my bloginstagramtwitter, and/or facebook.
Thanks for letting me share with your readers Tawny!
Have a beautiful day!
